Meh...

Without having seen the 1999 movie "Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century", I opted to sit down and watch the 2001 sequel "Zenon: The Zequel", but can't claim that I was overly impressed or entertained. But I still opted to sit down and watch 2004 third movie "Zenon: Z3" on the off chance that it would be better than part II.

But it wasn't. Then again, I am not the target audience for this type of movie from Disney, so of course I didn't really find much of any enjoyment or entertained in this movie from director Steve Rash.

Writers Marilyn Sadler, Roger Bollen and Stu Krieger put together a script and storyline that failed to capture my interest, much less offer me much of any proper entertainment. So it was quite a struggle to sit through 81 minutes of this rubbish. But hey, if you're a pre-teenage girl, I am sure that "Zenon: Z3" will prove entertaining for you.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough. I will say that much, despite of the storyline failing to entertain me. However, it wasn't anything impressive or grand that took place on the screen.

I am amazed that the CGI effects in a movie from 2004 could be so bad. The CGI looked like discarded and unfinished graphics from a 1990s computer game. It looked like they had started to generate the effects, but ran out of funds or manpower along the way, and the graphics were sketches without finished textures. It was cringeworthy to look at.

My rating of "Zenon: Z3" lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.

Meh - but excited for the Mammoth Club Podcast Review

Recently listened to the review of The Zequel on Mammoth Club, and thought I would watch Z3 for the heck of it.

This story is wild and a BIG jump from the first two. You got goddesses, magic dreams, moon colonization that is really just an extra large bouncy castle, has-been rockstars, Niel Armstrong??, the meteorological destruction of earth, and like 17 other plots all rolled up into one. I'm surprised I followed this when I saw it at 8, and I'm not sure if I did today as an adult either. I think what really made it feel different was they didn't spend any time in the space station, not that that matters, it just felt like this one was a big divergence from the Zenon formula. Also not sure if I should care since this is a 20 year old DCOM though...

I gave it a 5 out of 10, and probably would have scored it lower if the nostalgia factor did not set in while watching it. I'm really just upset the recasted Proto Zoa. That is a real travesty.

Teen space adventure with soft coming-of-age themes.

As Zenon (Kirsten Storms) prepares for an important competition, an activist seeks his help on a mission to stop the colonization of the moon. Zenon Kar, a teenager living on a space station in the year 2054, competes in the first ever Galactic Teen Supreme contest.

Teen space adventure with soft coming-of-age themes.

Despite being the most boring of the entire trilogy, it was what entertained me the most, I have a captivating crush on films of dubious quality that are extremely simple, in short and hypocrisy, but it's so cute, cuddly, those childish ones with a worthwhile moral lesson waste time...
