The film is primarily set through conversations between a driver and his passenger. However, it presents a series of flashbacks filled with different emotions. The main story is quite simple: an elderly woman wants to enjoy her final journey before moving into a new home. Every place they pass holds a story from her past, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood. She carries burdens closely tied to women's issues and feminism, including an unwanted pregnancy, domestic violence, and a mother's love for her child. These experiences are portrayed as products of a different era. Meanwhile, the driver carries anxieties commonly associated with masculinity. He struggles with financial problems, family responsibilities, and overwhelming bills. Pressured by circumstances beyond his means, he seeks a solution despite his doubts. The story ultimately ends with the driver's regret over the decision he made regarding the old woman.

It’s like a middle-aged Howl picking up an elderly Sophie for one last ride. To be honest, Kimura is still giving us the same one-note performance he’s been doing for decades, but the movie is just so damn atmospheric. The director wraps the whole story in such warmth and romance that it’s hard to care. From the everyday bustle of the Shitamachi area to the glowing harbor lights, the visuals are so healing they make you completely overlook the clichés. 3.9/5?
