Plot summary

After receiving a distressing medical diagnosis, a listless young man flees the crushing tedium of Toronto city life, trading it all for the wilderness of the British Columbian Interior. When his whims go awry, he is reduced to petty thievery just to survive. Fearing his misdeeds will catch up with him, he retreats further and further into the woods only to gradually find himself the target of increasingly inexplicable and disturbing manifestations, which point to a frightening truth: he is not alone. Some one or some thing is pursuing him into THE INTERIOR.

I loved this movie! The actor reminds me

I loved this movie! The actor reminds me of Bo Burnham. The beginning of the movie sets the tone, making the viewer unsure if what they’re seeing is reality or his imagination. I like that I have no idea what happened after watching this. It could have been all in his head, it could have been a ghost, it could have been a slasher film. The person who wrote this is truly gifted at building suspense but keeping the viewer guessing… is this a joke? Truly terrifying night scenes with the tent, I will probably never go camping again without worrying about this so thanks for that. Just goes to show you can be creative and do something totally new and make a great movie without a huge budget, just good ideas.

If you love heterosexual white men complaining about

If you love heterosexual white men complaining about how hard they have it, this movie is for you. My advice: watch Willow Creek instead. It's a better variation on these tropes. Issues: 1) **Does not take place in The Interior of BC, but coastal forests.** 2) Pacing. His tent? Again? 3) The script railroads a character into a situation that makes no sense. Why not just go home? What are the emotional stakes? Why does he need to stay in this creepy forest? 4) The story is deeply rooted in a unique kind of male malaise where a sad dude can't set boundaries with his boss so he breaks up with his girlfriend and goes camping. The entire first act is kind of wasted on setting this up. If you're writing an indie horror, you could come up with a host of better premises or motivations or just start him in the forest ffs. 5) Runtime too short but content so repetitive it feels too long.

There's a certain "creep factor" that the last quarter of THE INTERIOR briefly plays against the deeply mundane boredom of its first three quarters, but that's it. If you're into not much other than a VERY poor and undeveloped storyline and cheesy production, this is definitely your flick!
