A touching tale of empowerment and overcoming adversity

A touching tale of empowerment and overcoming adversity, The Founders is a documentary about the creation of the LPGA. 13 amateur women golfers who were sick of not being treated equally decided to form an organization that would give women that chance to play the game they loved and make a living doing it. Despite a thriving amateur scene for women golfers, in 1950 a woman wasn't going to be able to play golf professionally. Stars of the amateur scene decided to create the LPGA to give women a chance to have their own tour and show the world what they were capable of accomplishing. 4 of the founders were still alive at the time the documentary was filmed, and their commentary and recollections of their stories was awesome to see. It was even better seeing footage of them at recent tournaments being greeted by the golfers of today, showing respect to those who paved the way for them. If you want to see a heartwarming story about some of the greatest women athletes of our time, The Founders is for you.

After seeing The Founders, I won't ever look

After seeing The Founders, I won't ever look at the sport of golf the same way again. The Founders is the documentary which follows the creation of the LPGA, and the 13 women who sacrificed time and energy, and overcame countless social barriers in order to pave the way for women in the sport. This film's incredible biographical ability allows viewers to become so personally enthralled with the original LPGA founders and their countless anecdotes regarding their lives and the LPGA. I'd strongly recommend seeing The Founders, as it opened my eyes to a side of golf I've never before seen and a true story I won't soon forget.

The Founders is a charming documentary about the 13 women who made it possible for women to play golf professionally. Their unwavering passion for the sport and their motivation for one another allowed them to play through the critics’ attempts to discourage them. The film contains interviews with a few of the founders, themselves, who describe their stories of heroism with sheer humility that leaves viewers wanting to sit down with them and hear more. Photos, video clips, and music from the early days of their careers beautifully depict the evolution of the “rich man’s game” to the co-ed, welcoming sport it is now. Such an inspiring film that any type of viewer would love—golf fan or not.
