Its pacing is on the slow side but

Its pacing is on the slow side but this is a cheap, competent, minimalistic actioner that's worth a watch if you're a fan of the genre.

A bit boring...

The mere fact that I had never even heard about this 1999 action movie titled "The Base" hardly mattered, as I stumbled upon it here in 2026. But the fact that it had Mark Dacascos on the cast list certainly helped to make me opt to sit down and watch the movie. The storyline in the movie, as written by Jeff Albert, Hersh Rephun, Craig J. Nevius, Eric Barker and William C. Martell, was okay. It was watchable, sure, but also generic and somewhat bland.Aside from Mark Dacascos in the lead, there were a few other familiar faces on the cast list, with the likes of Marco Rodríguez, Tim Abell, Joe Renteria, Noah Blake and Louis Perez. The acting performances in the movie were fair. There were a few action scenes and sequences throughout the course of the 97 minutes that the movie ran for, but it was far from sufficient, because this was more of a drama than it was an action movie.Watchable, but hardly an outstanding foray into the late 1990s action genre. But now I can check it off of the watched-movies-list, though I doubt I will ever return to it a second time.My rating of director Mark L. Lester's 1999 movie "The Base" lands on a bland four out of ten stars.

Cheap action fest with flourishes of Commando-style violence
