Marinette is a 2023 French biographical sports drama film written, produced and directed by Virginie Verrier. The film stars Garance Marillier as Marinette Pichon, one of the pioneers of French women's football. It is based on the 2018 autobiography Pichon Ne jamais rien lâcher. He had to leave it at the age of 16 according to the laws of the federation. At home, his mother becomes a victim of his abusive alcoholic father. Marinette does odd jobs before being recruited by the Olympic Women's Soccer Club. She established herself as a talented striker and joined the French women's national football team, but the toxic atmosphere in the group forced her to refuse selection, for which she received a six-month ban. Recruited by the Philadelphia Chargers women's soccer team in the United States, she left France with her mother and became the first French soccer player to join an American professional league, where she set a goals-per-game record. Marinette does not have to hide her sexuality in the United States, but when the United Women's Football Association goes bankrupt, she returns to France. In France, Marinette meets the woman of her life, confronts homophobia and publicly defends the equal rights of women in the value of France and the creation of a suitable position for professional football for women. Marinette became the greatest female soccer player in French history.

Fighting sexism and homophobia.
Marinette is a biopic about Marinette Pichon, one the best French female footballers of all time, and perhaps the most influential one. As many early female footballers at the highest level, she had to battle a lack of interest and resources, battle sexism and homophobia. She overcame some tough barriers, but she would be the first to tell you that she wasn't able to overcome all of them.
Marinette played with boys and with girls. She played locally, nationally and internationally. She was the first French footballer (male or female) to play professionally in the U. S., and she holds several goal-scoring records.
Off the pitch, her life was just as challenging, with a belligerent drunk for a father. She later became a pioneer within gay rights, being one of the first in France to marry someone of the same gender.
Marinette is an important story about an important person and role model.
