this looked prommising. i love any kind of shark movie. So if you add the survival aspect to it, im hooked. and I was on the hook until the sharks showed up. its actually laughable. how is it even remotely possible to have cgi this bad. its unthinkable. weve all seen jaws. Deep blue sea. meters down ect. so with more resources than mankind has ever had available, to drop the ball on this is unforgivable. and that doesnt even touch on how unbelievably bad most of the acting is. The decent ratings on this movie will forever destroy my trust of the popcorn meter or the tomatometer. And I dont turn up my nose to corny bad movies. but this was sold as a decent blockbuster, and it falls way short in many ways.

Renny Hamlin is a veteran director of a bygone era, so he knows how to handle complex action sequences like the plane crash in this movie. But outside of that scene, this movie is really quite bad and feels out of touch with modern times. We’ve all seen Shark Week - we know what sharks look like and how they behave. Makos don’t even attack humans. There’s a lot of reliance on cheap sentiment (e.g., little kids parents die and they wail) that is downright off putting. Lots of old 90s stereotypes types, i.e., black woman is the first to get chomped by shark. I hope guys like Kane Parsons (Backrooms) and Curry Barker (Obsession) put these old dinosaurs out of business. It’s time for some original filmmaking and fresh ideas.
