Pretty entertaining

Hey this is an entertaining movie. Not the best written but the acting by Willie does a great job as the likable con artist with a penchant for helping the Rangers. Very knowledgeable about many of the things that happen in the movie, I think he is the best character in the film. Kris is pretty good also. The rest of the acting is okay. Regulators have raised their ugly head in Texas, killing felons that were released by the courts for one reason or another. Framing Captain Jack Parsons for murder sets the whole thing off. In trying to clear him Kris and Willie find a deeper plot headed by the Regulator running for the governorship (Hoffner). They dig deep with the help of an FBI agent and finally round up the group after a confrontation at fund raiser for Hoffner. So everyone gets theirs that deserve it and the good guys are validated. Willie is released by Kris with his ill gotten gains from dominoes, $20K, with Kris telling him to stay in Mexico.

The cast makes it worthwhile.

A follow-up to a previous TV movie, 'Pair of Aces', this stars the unbeatable pair of Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson, playing an all-business Texas Ranger and shameless con man respectively. They team up with a sexy FBI agent (Joan Severance) to solve the case when Kris' associate Rip Torn seems to be guilty of a vigilante killing, and Kris just doesn't think that his buddy could be responsible.

Although the story is nothing special, it *is* appealing for being one obvious love letter to the state of Texas. Its principal value does lie in the star combo, who of course have great chemistry. A clean-shaven Kris is solid, playing his role pretty straight, while Willie and Rip get to have the most fun in their colorful supporting roles. (Willie was also one of the executive producers.) Although unmemorable in the end, 'Another Pair of Aces' is very well done for a TV movie, with capable direction by actor Bill Bixby. It has drama, comedy, and a mild amount of violence. Its attempt at a twist isn't a big surprise, however.

One highlight is seeing a very young Shelby Lynne making a musical appearance; another is the score by Jay Gruska.

If you're a fan of Willie & Kris, you'll certainly enjoy watching them here. Willie is quite fun playing a cheery scoundrel.

Six out of 10.

"Well I ain't had so much fun since the hogs ate my little brother."

The best thing about this flick is the camaraderie among the three principals - Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Rip Torn. Nelson and Torn are given some genuinely creative and original lines, best exemplified by the Captain Jack Parsons (Torn) quote in my summary above. Who came up with that one?

But seriously, how can you believe the funeral gimmick they tried to pull here with Rip Torn's character? Wouldn't the funeral director figure out that the guy in the casket wasn't really dead? It was easier to imagine that Willie could shove an egg through his head.

I guess this was entertaining enough, especially if you're a fan of the main players. The Boston FBI agent (Joan Severance) is an interesting diversion for Kristofferson as her character is written with a couple of twists, so you don't get too used to seeing her as just a romantic interest. For much of the story though, you have to suspend your disbelief and just go with the flow. Notwithstanding Bureau procedure, it takes a lot to believe you could krazy glue a guy's hand to his car door.
